Completed our pilgrimage to the Delaware seashore on Cape Henlopen: http://www.destateparks.com/park/cape-henlopen/

Not surprisingly, we’re sharing the beach with thousands of other Americans who had the same idea on this hot, humid sunny last weekend of summer.

We stopped at a farmer’s stand on Maryland’s Eastern Shore on the drive in, picking up fresh corn, tomatoes, melon and some of the best peaches I’ve had all summer.

The ocean water feels downright balmy after swimming in the North Atlantic all summer, though 75F is still more than cool enough to break the heat.

The biggest change may be that the surf is quite active: a feisty blue crab swimming below me pinched my foot when I bumped it. (All things considered, it beats any nip from one of the great whites patrolling the surf off Nauset Beach on Cape Cod.)

The waves, sun and sand here extend summer just one more weekend. It feels like this season passes more quickly every year. (Taken with Instagram)
